Course aims & objectives
Under CAA Guidance, screeners should receive some training in Human factors and how it relates to their screening, to enhance learning outcomes of dedicated screening training, improve decision making, and improve overall security culture.
This online training course is designed to equip security screeners and companies with essential knowledge and skills related to human factors in decision-making. Recognizing that effective screening and alarm resolution depend heavily on human judgment, the course emphasizes the importance of creating an environment that supports screeners in performing their tasks without fear of penalization for hesitation or cautiousness.
Participants will learn to understand how human factors can impact the areas in which they operate, including the identification of a wide range of potential threat items. By focusing on the human factors that influence performance, this course aims to optimize screening effectiveness and improve overall security outcomes. There is a focus on the ICAO Five Human Performance Principles and how they impact people's decision making and actions and behaviours.
Additionally, the course highlights the need for management teams to collaborate closely with operational staff, ensuring that training and procedures remain relevant and incorporate real-time feedback on human factor considerations. This is particularly crucial when external instructors are involved, as staying updated on local arrangements can pose challenges.
Overall, this course empowers participants to enhance their decision-making capabilities, create supportive screening environments, and contribute to a more effective and responsive security framework.
