Course aims & objectives
The safe and humane transport of live animals by air requires strict adherence to international standards. This course provides essential awareness of the IATA Live Animal Regulations and equips learners with the knowledge needed to ensure compliance, animal welfare, and operational safety.
Through this training, participants will gain a clear understanding of the terminology used in the Live Animal Regulations and the differences between mandatory and recommended requirements. The course outlines the responsibilities of both shippers and operators, including documentation, health certification, and the provision of appropriate containers, bedding, and care.
Learners will explore the regulatory framework governing live animal transport, including state and operator variations, and the role of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna & Flora (CITES). The course also highlights the importance of training for all personnel involved in the handling and acceptance of live animal consignments, ensuring they are prepared to identify stress indicators, safeguard welfare, and maintain compliance.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify and apply key requirements for live animal shipments, recognize the appropriate container standards, and ensure that consignments are marked, labelled, and documented correctly. This knowledge supports both regulatory compliance and the safe, humane movement of animals across international borders.
